Thespian Gold Honor Troupe

Troupe 2001 was named a Gold Honor Troupe for 2019 at the Kansas State Thespian Festival

International Thespians Society

Hello and thank you for taking an interest in Seaman High School's Theatre Department. My name is Mason Clark and I am the president of our International Thespians Society, troupe 2001.

I would like to say that this year we are very excited to see new faces. Theatre is a place that is accepting of all who look for somewhere to belong. We offer experiences in building sets for those interested in construction. We have positions in hair, makeup, and costume crews if that is what you like. We learn about lighting and sound design as well. There are also many opportunities for those interested in performance roles.

International Thespian Society and Seaman High School Theatre have a lot of fun events that will take place this year. This will begin with our first mainstage show of the year, a comedy titled "You Can't Take It With You." Performances for this production will be November 1,2, 3. We will also be hosting a haunted trail in October for those looking for a good scare. Our musical this year will be "Legally Blonde." Performances for this show will be March 28,29,30. Our final mainstage show of the year will be in May. It will be two one-act plays directed by seniors. International Thespian Society will also host a district-wide Variety Show to show off your talents!

We'd love to see you participate in the theatre department this year and experience all the fun our theatre has to offer! We also hope you will consider joining our Theatre Honor Society (International Thespian Society)

Thanks,

Mason Clark

International Thespian Society

The International Thespian Society (ITS) is the Educational Theatre Association's student honorary organization. ITS recognizes the achievements of high school and middle school theatre students. Since 1929, EdTA has inducted more than 2 million Thespians into ITS. That number continues to grow, with more than 36,000 students from around the country being inducted each year.

Who are Thespians?

Thespian troupes include students in grades 9-12, and Junior Thespian troupes include students in grades 6-8. There are troupes in more than 4,000 high schools and middle schools.

A few of our Thespian alumni are famous names from the entertainment industry, including Tom Hanks, Val Kilmer, James Marsters, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Stephen Schwartz. But most alumni are in just about any industry you can imagine and excel using skills they learned as Thespians.

How do you join?

Grade:

Only students in grades nine through twelve (or the international equivalent) may be inducted into the high school Thespian troupe. The induction will take place at the end of each school year.

Thespian points:

To become a Thespian, a student must earntenpoints, the equivalent of one hundred hours of work. Five of those points should be acquired at the school where he or she is to be inducted.

  • Inducted Junior Thespians automatically begin their high school careers with half of the points needed for high school Thespian induction.
  • One point represents approximately ten hours of excellent work. Use this formula in awarding points for items not specifically listed in the point system.
  • Induction points should be earned through participation in at least two full-length productions, or one full-length and two one-acts, or four one-acts.
  • Induction points should be earned in at least two of the listed categories, for example, acting and production.
  • At the troupe director's discretion, students may earn up to five points toward induction through participation in a community, children's, middle school, or professional theatre.
  • Thespian membership is offered to all students who qualify. No student can be elected into the troupe, and no student can be denied membership if he or she has fulfilled all membership requirements.
