2019 Profile in Courage Essay Contest - January 18, 2019
In his book "Profiles in Courage", John F. Kennedy recounted the stories of eight U.S. senators who risked their careers to do what was right for the nation. These leaders demonstrated political courage by taking a stand for the public good in spite of pressure by interest groups, their political party, or even their constituents. The Profile in Courage Essay Contest challenges students to write an original and creative essay that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in "Profiles in Courage".

WE THE STUDENTS Essay Contest - February 14, 2019
The We the Students Essay Contest, sponsored by the Bill of Rights Institute, features over $20,000 in prizes, and a grand prize of $5,000. To win, students must answer the following question: What are the essential qualities of a citizen in your community in 21st century America?

Topeka Zoo Writing Contest - April 14, 2019
Raise awareness of conservation issues by writing a fictional story about real-life problems happening to plants and animals, such as habitat loss, poaching, pollution, climate change, the pet trade, and more!
These do not have to be sad stories, they just need to incorporate real scenarios that wildlife face.
Age Categories: Kindergarten-2nd grade; 3rd-5th grade; 6th-8th grade; 9th-12th grade; Adult
Prizes: Choice of a behind-the-scenes animal tour or a painting done by a zoo animal!
