Seaman School District and Sunrise Optimist Announce Land Acquisition

Seaman School District is excited to announce an expanded partnership with the North Topeka Sunrise Optimist Club. On November 13, 2023, the USD 345 Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of land adjacent to Seaman High School. To symbolize the expanded partnership between the two organizations, the complex will be named Sunrise Optimist Club – Seaman Sports Complex. The purchase reflects both organizations’ dedication to youth activities and the commitment to ensure our students benefit from top-notch facilities. 

The newly acquired land currently serves as the Seaman High School baseball field, softball fields, youth tee ball fields, and outer grounds. The North Topeka Sunrise Optimist will remain owners of the land where the Sunrise Optimist Building and parking lot resides. 

Superintendent Brad Willson expressed his enthusiasm about the land acquisition, stating, “Our community is so grateful for the programs, services, and support provided by the Sunrise Optimist Club, particularly to our youth. They have allowed us to call their land home for many years and we have produced exceptional programs on their fields. Now we look forward to continuing their legacy and commitment to our community and our students.” 

USD 345 purchased the land for $650,000 using Capital Outlay Funds, a restricted account in the district budget which requires all expenditures from this fund meet certain criteria such as land acquisition, construction, or remodeling. Seaman School District intends to ensure the development of this acquisition aligns with the mission of the district and in partnership with our community.
